Equate Dental Market Index 2026

Written by the Equate Instruments Technical Team · Published · Updated ·

The Equate Dental Market Index 2026 ranks 22 dental markets in Europe, North America, the GCC and Turkey on dentists per 10,000 people and WHO's oral disease burden, and shows Equate's own instrument search-demand data alongside. Lithuania (96.3), Norway (92.2) and Germany (90.7) rank highest.

Key points

  • Top three: Lithuania, Norway and Germany.
  • Each input is scaled 0 to 100 across the markets, then averaged.
  • The full data is downloadable as CSV.

How do the markets rank?

Scores are 0 to 100. A dash means Equate has no figure for that input; it is scored at the median of the other markets, so a gap neither raises nor lowers the score. Download the data as CSV.

How is the index calculated?

  • Dentist density: dentists per 10,000 people, from the WHO 2022 oral health country profiles, or a national register figure converted to the same scale where WHO has none.
  • Dental schools are listed for reference but not scored, because Equate's school lists are complete for some markets only.
  • Disease burden: the average of WHO's 2019 estimates for severe periodontal disease (age 15+) and untreated caries of permanent teeth (age 5+).
  • Search demand is shown for reference but not scored: Equate's analysis of Google Keyword Planner data (October 2025 to September 2026) covers only the UK & Ireland and North America so far.
  • Each input is scaled from 0 (lowest market) to 100 (highest), a missing input is set to the median of the markets that have it, the two are averaged, and ties are broken by dentist density.

How should the index be used?

Markets with more dentists per person and more oral disease to treat score higher. The index compares markets on the data Equate holds; it is not a measure of sales. Figures come from different years, so small gaps between countries are not meaningful. Each country guide shows the underlying facts and their sources.
